Rooted Floating Weeds: Management, Control, and Problems

Rooted Floating Weeds

Rooted floating plants provide natural, aesthetic qualities to lakes, ponds and rivers with showy flowers and large leafed foliage. Fish utilized the shade provided by these plants to aid in regulating their body temperature. Rooted floating plants support both macrophytes and invertebrates. Many times the tubers will serve as food for waterfowl.

Rooted floating plants are notorious for overspreading in lakes and ponds, especially if the water is shallow and clear. Nuscianse rooted floating plands can severely inhibit recreational activities. The key is not to allow these plants to overrun the waterbody's shallow areas, maintaining about 15 to 20% coverage. Identify the plant problem; choose the recommended solution.
