Water Level Surveys

ABI conducts water lavel sureys throughout the year on ponds with unstable water levels, most often caused by leaks. The most recognizable signs of a leak are rapid water level decreases or the water falling below the level expected with normal use. Wet spots and aquatic vegetation (like cattails) below the dams, leeves or other types of water control structures may also indicate a leak or excess seepage is occuring.

During the course of a water level survey ABI biologists closely examine the topography, drainage area, soil content of the site and the size of the watershed.

The best cure for a leaky pond is prevention. Good site selection, proper design and good construction and maintenance will eliminate most problems before they start.
