Water Circulators are an energy-efficient method of creating flow in a stagnant waterway. Long-life Kasco water circulators create a moving stream of water that provides your aquatic environment with important benefits:

Provides aeration by introducing directional flow and oxygen into the water

Prevent winterkills by keeping an area open for oxygen transfer

Control Debris

Prevent Stagnation

Protect docks and boats from ice damage in the winter months

Eliminate Thermal Stratification by mixing the entire water column

Inhibit Mosquito and insect reproduction

Extend waterfowl hunting in the north by keeping areas ice free

Accelerates decomposition of organic material

Promotes a healthy, balanced aquatic environment

Keeps ice from forming around docks/piers

Numerous research studies have demonstrated the benefits of water circulation. For example, oxygenated water has been shown to improve decomposition of unwanted organic material by aerobic bacteria and micro and macro organisms. In addition, oxygenation of the bottom layer can tie up phosphorus, making less available that could fuel aquatic plant growth.

These units offer excellent performance across a wide range of depths and are compatible with all relatively shallow (2½’ or greater) water depths.

The unit’s float accommodates motor mounting on one of five positions for water movement to depths of up to 18 feet. A ½ HP unit can effectively circulate water in a one-acre pond with average depth of 6 feet. A single ¾ HP unit was able to create effective water movement in a canal measuring 1000’ long x 10’ wide with average depth of 4’.

Each unit is manufactured of the highest-grade industrial components in Wisconsin and is designed to meet ul safety standards as a complete package. Units are engineered to be fully compatible with salt-water applications.

Mounting and Installation Options

Kasco water circulators positioned around docks and/or boats can prevent costly ice damage by keeping an area ice free around your valuables. Depending on your situation, they can be mounted in three different methods (shown below)

Kasco Marine

Rope Suspension

Kasco De-Icers are at times installed using a rope suspension method. The angled operation by suspended methodproduces an elongated pattern of agitated water. A vertical positioning produces a circular pattern. Vertical positioning of the De-Icer works well under boats and docks or between slips and boats. Adjusting the angle of the De-Icer suspension is done by simply looping one suspension rope back one or two ribs on the propeller cage. Angled operation can be used to de-ice shallow water areas. This will direct the flow of warmer water from a deeper area into the shallower area. Remember, a De-Icer works because it draws warmer, denser water from the bottom and circulates it upward to the surface, preventing ice formation or melting existing ice.

It is often easier to de-ice a boat by installing the de-icer at or near the bow, angled toward the stern. If the water flow is directed toward the shore or a retaining wall, it will flair, forming a desirable”T” shape de-icing pattern.

In tidal waters, split the difference in water depth so the De-Icer is in shallow water at low tide and deep water at high tide. Or, tie your De-Icer to the boat and allow the boat and De-Icer to rise and fall with the tide.

Rope suspension is works very well in many applications, including around boats, docks, and piers.

Horizontal Float

underwater circulator 300dpiKasco Marine, Inc. offers an exclusive, arctic proven flotation kit that is optional for all De-Icers. The easy-to-assemble kit consists of stainless steel components and a flotation block. The De-Icer unit is mounted horizontally to the surface of the water, just below the flotation block. The De-Icer can be angled in several positions; horizontal and above and below horizontal.

The horizontal operation of the De-Icer produces an elongated pattern of agitatedwater. This is well suited for tough problems such as shallow water areas, areas where water and ice levels fluctuate such as tidalwaters, or where elongated open water areas are desired, such as around long docks. With adjustable angles above and below horizontal, the De-Icer can also be suited to fit many water depth and obstruction conditions.

The Horizontal Float works for de-icing with minimal ice, but due to mounting the unit close to the surface, it is not always the best choice for de-icing all applications. However, using a Kasco De-Icer with the Horizontal Float is great tool to improve summer water quality and eliminate stagnant water. It can also be used to push debris into an area that it is easily removed.

Universal Dock Mount

dock mount pic white backgroundThe heavy-duty Universal Dock Mount or Piling Mount is made from thermal plastic composites, corrosion protected steel, and stainless steel to withstand the toughest marine conditions. The De-Icer is mounted to the “underwater parts” of the Universal Dock Mount and the “above water” parts are mounted to the dock or piling. Due to shipping limitations, a 1″ pipe extension needs to be supplied by the purchaser to connect the “underwater parts” and “above water” parts. The new Easy Lock handle makes adjustments in the water a breeze.

The De-Icer may be operated in a vertical or several different angled positions. The De-Icer may also be adjusted to a maximum depth of 10′ from the above water mounting brackets and it may be moved 360 degrees. This allows for a variety of operating positions and is able to fit and adapt to many different situations and conditions.

The Universal Dock Mount is Aqutic Biologists, Inc. #1 method of installation. It is an ideal option for requiring a large amount of adjustability, such as marina applications, gas piers, wharfs, water towers or water storage areas; or areas where rope suspension is not an option, such as pilings or where boat traffic may interfere with the ropes.

Industrial Dock Mount

Kasco’s Industrial Dock Mount is modeled after the Universal Dock Mount, but with heavier, stronger components for the rigors of industrial applications. The Industrial Dock Mount utilizes a 1.5” diameter pipe instead of the 1” used on the Universal Dock Mount and all of the underwater parts are stainless steel, as opposed to some thermoplastic components on the Universal model. Due to shipping limitations, purchaser is responsible for suppling this pipe.

The Industrial option still allows for 360 degree operation, adjustment angling, and the ability to raise and lower the unit in the water column. Due to its stronger design, it also allows for the option of longer than a 10’ pipe for deeper applications.

The Industrial Dock Mount is ideal for the rigors of industrial or manufacturing processes such as oil fracking and dredging barges, security barriers, hydroelectric power generation, dams and locks, and lift gates.
